It was another exciting weekend of sporting action, with the Gunners claiming the biggest headline.

Last weekend delivered yet again in the world of sports. The new European football season is officially underway, while the FIFA Women’s World Cup keeps producing upsets. There was also the little matter of a face-off between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz.

Having said that, we look at some of the biggest sporting stories from last weekend.

Arsenal edge out Manchester City in Community Shield

Arsenal and Manchester City were in action at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in this year's Community Shield.

Having finished second, behind City, in the Premier League, Arsenal had the honour of taking on Pep Guardiola's treble winners in the season's curtain raiser.

The Cityzens, still riding high after winning the treble last season, came into the clash after a defeat to Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly.

Form was thrown out of the window as they took the lead in the second half through Cole Palmer's stunning effort.

It looked like Guardiola's men would go on to win the clash until Leandro Trossard's deflected shot in the 11th minute of added time leveled the scores for the Gunners.

The equaliser proved costly for the Premier League champions as Arteta's men went on to win the tie on penalties.

While the title may not mean much in terms of its significance, the win will definitely give Arsenal confidence going into the new season.

The USA crash out of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Before Sunday, The United States Women had reached at least every FIFA Women's World Cup semi-final. However, that all changed on Sunday as Sweden knocked them out in their round of 16 clash.

The United States have been riding their luck in the tournament and were only saved by the post in their final group game against Portugal.

Ironically, the game against Sweden was their best performance in the tournament. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side as third-ranked Sweden prevailed on penalties despite the US' 22-goal attempts.

The penalty shootout was not without drama, as VAR was needed to confirm if the final penalty from Sweden crossed the line.

Jake Paul punishes Nate Diaz

After Terence Crawford’s masterclass against Eroll Spence Jr, there was more boxing action last weekend as Jake Paul defeated Nate Diaz.

Paul, who has turned himself into a prizefighter, clearly held the advantage for much of the 10-round fight. Diaz, a mixed-martial arts fighter who left the UFC in 2022, appeared on the verge of a knockout at various moments.

Paul (7-1) showed he was better conditioned throughout the fight as he bounced back from his first career loss - a split decision against Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia in February. The three judges scored the fight 97-92, 98-91, and 98-91.

That's it on some of the biggest sporting stories from last weekend. However, this weekend promises to be more exciting with the return of the Premier League and La Liga.
